Accessing the secret Sky Installers Menu.
This information is ONLY applicable to Sky Digiboxes.
There is a hidden menu on a Sky Digibox that gives access to some extra engineering functions. Firstly a word of warning:
BE CAREFUL what you change in here - you could stop your Digibox working. I will accept no responsibility if you go delving into this menu and you change something you shouldn't have..... Proceed AT YOUR OWN RISK!
To access the Installers Menu, use the following set of key presses:
SERVICES, 4, 0, 1, SELECT.
This will give you access to several sections:
LNB setup.
This setting allows you to change the LNB Local Oscillator frequencies, and to turn the power on and off to the LNB. You should not touch these settings unless you have a non standard dish / LNB and have a specific reason for changing them.
Default Transponder.
Do not change this unless you are trying to use a Digibox on another satellite. You can set this to a known working transponder to help you accurately set up the dish direction.
Telephone Settings.
Do not change this setting unless you have to, AND you know what you are doing. You can change the dialling type (tone / pulse), and the dialling prefix here. There have been several cases of people making a major mistake fiddling with dialing prefixes, and setting up 999, or the speaking clock. Then wondering why they get a visit from HM Police Force, or a gigantic bill as the box dials out every few minutes..... (Update - a software update has apparently stopped any invalid prefixes being used. If a box fails to dial home, it just deletes any prefix.)
RF Output.
This is actually a useful section :-) The default RF setting for a Digibox is channel 68. Unfortunately this is used by tv transmitters in some areas...You can change this channel setting to an unused one in your area. When you change this setting you will lose your picture until you retune your tv to the new rf channel number. This does not apply if you are using a SCART connection.
You can also turn the 12v output for RF Output 2 on / off using this section. (Useful if you want to use a TV Link unit).
Manual Tuning.
Useful :-) But only if you want to add some extra channels to your Digibox. There currently arent many channels available off the EPG, just a few test cards. If you are a test card freak check out the satellite forum at Digital Spy There is a round up of the latest information posted every Monday by "Radio Ruderham". Look for his threads normally titled "Sky news and tests, week ##" where "##" is the current week number. DS does not require registration to use the forums at the moment, so you can browse the forums all you want.
New Installation.
Dont touch! Used by installers to authorise your Sky card.
If you arrived here from a search engine and dont see the frameset, click here to get to the front page.
The web site will not work properly if you dont.
